These options and comparisons were presented to the Washburn University Board of Regents Budget and Finance Committee on January 16, 2007. The conversion of Whiting includes the addition of a new second floor basketball court and two floors of classroom/office space of up to 17,000 sq. ft.

Pool conversion - Advantages
- Pool eliminated
- Lowest cost
Pool conversion - Disadvantages
- Pool closing wil be an issue
- Separates football conditioning and lockers
- Pool usage has increased over past 18 months
Whiting Conversion - Advantages
- Pool remains viable facility
- Project addresses Whiting deficiencies (floor, A/C, windows, doors, ADA)
- Fundraising potential as historic restoration project
- Plenty of available space could provide classrooms or office space
- Conditioning area close to football locker rooms
Whiting Conversion - Disadvantages
- Existing capital maintenance needs add to cost of project
- Pool will eventually require capital maintenance
- University reserves required to add new academic space, electrical upgrades, etc.
