Faculty / Staff
This section discusses areas of particular concern to the faculty and staff at Washburn University.
- Merit Pay
- Whose idea was this? Does merit pay have any place in an educational institution? Is merit pay administered at Washburn University in a manner that is consistent with holding itself out as an institution with Equal Employment Opportunity?
- TIAA
- Retirement contributions on summer school pay. Once considered an important issue for the faculty, it was rejected by the Board. It has apparently not been revisited. Maybe it should be.
- Operating Expenses
- What funds are available to the faculty to stay current in their respective professions? A review of other operating expenses in the academic areas indicates that no funds are allocated by the university for ongoing professional development. Journals, conferences, even classroom supplies seemed to have been overlooked when developing the operating budget.
- Technology at WU
- Resources allocated to academic computing are woefully inadequate at the same time that resources for administrative computing seem unlimited.
- Governance
- In addition to suggestions for the Board of Regents to consider that might improve their accountability to the public, highlights of recent Board of Regent meetings are also provided
